Ceramic microfiltration filters can be cleaned in place during operation through backpulsing every 15 seconds. When fouling does occur, it will be less frequent than for polymeric filters, sand filters, or hollow fiber membranes -- and chemical cleaning can be accomplished with stronger chemicals at higher temperatures and reduced downtime.
